About Signal Hill National Historic Site

Signal Hill is a dramatic promontory above St. John’s harbour combining sweeping ocean vistas with tangible military and communications history. Cabot Tower stands at the summit and interpretive exhibits tell stories of coastal defence, transatlantic communication breakthroughs and Newfoundland’s strategic role.

Well-marked trails and lookout points make Signal Hill a top spot for photography, sunset watching and short hikes; in winter it becomes a windswept but striking landscape. The site hosts guided walks, living-history events and seasonal interpretive programming that bring its past to life.
